About

I see no other way than to use one's contemporary sensitivity in approaching ancient text. To attempt to abstract modernity in order to read more closely into antiquity, seems to me an impossibility.
My main research interest is poetic imagery (or more broadly literary language in ancient Greek verse), especially in Aeschylus, Sophocles and Homer.
I was lucky to go to the French Lycee of Berlin where I read much French and German literature & philosophy, which have always stayed with me, complementing my understanding of classical texts.
During my studies I've focused on Greek drama and epic, literary theory, the history of ideas, and the classical tradition.
As a young teenager, I trained as a classical pianist, which later led me to work in the performance of classical drama and opera. This practical, live work with the texts proved unexpectedly instructive to me and I've since then been a convinced supporter of experimental methods and creative solutions in classical scholarship. Of course this requires the utmost scholarly prudence, and I'm getting better at it.
